From a foggy corner

A second-hand roaster, a lot of stubbornness, and a neighbourhood that adopted us.

🌫️
2018 — The Beginning

It started with one roaster.

Foglight began in 2018 with a second-hand drum roaster in a damp Wellington garage and a stubborn belief that great coffee shouldn't be complicated. No tasting-note poetry, no gatekeeping — just carefully sourced beans, roasted properly, and served by people who are glad you came in.

We opened the café a year later on the corner of Mist & Vine. It's small, a bit drafty, and full most mornings. We wouldn't change it.

How we work

Three simple rules

01

Source seasonally

We buy what's at its best right now, from importers who pay growers properly and tell us exactly where it came from.
02

Roast small

Every batch is roasted weekly in-house, so what you buy on Saturday was roasted on Tuesday. Never sooner, never older.
03

Serve warmly

Good coffee served badly is still a bad morning. Our baristas are trained to know your name, not just your order.
The Roastery

Come see it happen.

We roast on Tuesdays, and anyone's welcome to watch. Bring a coffee, ask questions, and take a warm bag home. It's the best-smelling hour of the week.

Wholesale & cafés

We supply a handful of local cafés and offices with beans, training and support. If that sounds like you, let's talk.
